Types of Pediatric Dental X-Rays

At Smilez Pediatric Dental Group, we primarily use bitewing and panoramic digital X-rays based on your child’s age and needs. Bitewing X-rays capture detailed images of the upper and lower teeth to detect cavities between teeth and below the gumline. They’re quick, easy, and painless—your child simply bites down on a small tab while the X-ray camera takes images from outside the cheek.

Panoramic X-rays provide a full view of the entire mouth in one image, helping us monitor jaw growth, identify missing or extra teeth, evaluate orthodontic development, and detect any abnormalities. During a panoramic scan, your child stands still while the camera rotates around their head—an entirely painless process that takes about 12 seconds.
